A DVD that smells and looks kind of like pizza once it’s “heated up” in a player? Looks (and tastes) bizarre.

The session also discuss ways to put the suggestions into practice in UX design team. By keeping patients at the center of our thinking, the right design will emerge.

140 is a minimalistic platformer nominated for Excellence in...

140 is a minimalistic platformer nominated for Excellence in Audio in IGF 2013.

The minimalist game—which has no storyline or characters—forces you to sync your movements to an “energetic, yet melancholic” soundtrack. The stripped-down landscape of the game changes along with the noises—keep up with the rhythm and visual cues, and you’re catapulted into different landscapes.

The project is an iterative process of investigations in generative typography. Basic grid and three simple geometric shapes construct letters. Certain parameters of basic shapes (radius, saturation, color, transparency) are changing according to the rules. The project is applied to the music theory and its parameters influence the changes of graphics.

Nick Cave’s work ethic is about discipline. He doesn’t sit around waiting for inspiration to come to him. He goes after it, which is to be admired.

He likes to isolate himself from the rest of the world, and therefore (or maybe because of that) he approaches music as a writer and not as a musician. Because writing is a solitary act, whilst music is a collective one.

Can we, as digital designers, approach the creation process as a solitary act, ignoring serendipity that arises from the sharing process?

Solomon Asch’s (wikipedia) conformity experiments of the 1950s reveal just how powerful the responses of other group members are during a test. Asch used a double-blind approach by placing a test subject within a group of actors playing the parts of other subjects and asking the group to respond to simple visual perception tasks. The stooges would unanimously give the incorrect answer, often perplexing the genuine subject and encouraging them to conform.
